The European Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring all safety services are carried out in accordance with our company policies and procedures, while adhering to relevant legislation/regulations and making sure our company policies are in line with governmental regulations in Europe. This role is based in Amstelveen and will report to the VP Operations and Regulatory Affairs EU & AMEAP. As this role is focused on the Europe region, presence in other locations (approx 50% of the time) is crucial, with the focus on the Netherlands, as this is where most of our locations are.

 

Fundamentals of the position:

  • Development and execution of the Central Europe And AMEAP Safety Strategy, which is consistent with Dawn’s overall goals and objectives.
  • Manage and maintain Central Europe & AMEAP Safety management system for local safety teams to drive.
  • Review, maintain and control of & Safety Operating Manuals, including document control.
  • Ensure compliance with audits through regular site audits/inspections and reporting.
  • Liaise and negotiate with external authorities, suppliers, auditors, trade and governmental bodies.
  • Maintain documentation in all areas of responsibility to comply with company quality management systems and safety
  • To ensure site security and integrity of the cctv system
  • Ensures that Safety complies and meets all legal, ethical and community standards. Demonstrates ‘Dawn’s Values’ 
  • Identify best practices throughout the EU & AMEAP sites and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices, using lean manufacturing principles, resulting in 0 LTA’s and clear trend in reducing near misses.
  • Facilitate Dawn Europe & AMEAP Safety Team agenda and progress meetings.
  • Manage the European Safety Teams.
  • Monthly progress update to EALT.
  • Will pursue continuing training to maintain a level of expertise equal or superior to associates in the business field (e.g safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring and use of safety equipment)
  • Co-ordination of site safety teams, to include & safety issues and statistical analysis reporting.
  • Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. Can conduct risk assessments and implement action plan to eliminate risks. Can write investment request and execute implementation after approval.
  • Investigate industrial accidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes, install preventive measures, and manage return-to-work activities
  • Provide advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes
  • Coordinate employee safety programs to determine their adequacy including review of short and long term strategic safety planning and development
     

To be successful you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Veiligheidskunde (Certificate HVK), Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciene or related field
  • Fluent in Dutch & English (verbal and written)
  • Ability to communicate effectively to stakeholders at different levels of our organization
  • Knowledge of relevant Dutch and international laws and regulations
  • 5+ years experience in a safety/environmental role
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of leadership experience
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Available to travel to our locations
