Job Purpose and Overview
The Project Engineer is responsible for the development, management, organization, and control of capital projects, from inception to completion, at one or more of Dawn’s North American locations. This position requires considerable interaction with other engineers, plant leadership teams, plant floor personnel, and external engineers and vendors. Projects may range from new packaging and processing equipment, plant infrastructure replacement or upgrades, cost savings/productivity projects, and supporting program development initiatives like executing asset criticality assessments and developing or updating engineering standards.
Work Environment & Travel: This is a remote position with up to 50% travel.
What will you do as a Project Engineer at Dawn Foods?
- Manage and execute all aspects of capital projects, such as all project management requirements, budget, schedule, conceptual / FEL engineering, scope development, cost estimation, system design, equipment sizing and selection, procurement, installation, construction management, check out, startup, project close-out.
- Manage and control project budget, providing cost forecasts and cash flow projections through the development of project cost and status reports.
- Manage external engineering firms and vendors as necessary.
- Monitor design progress and deliverables are met in adherence to established project key performance indicators.
- Lead project scope, cost estimation, and scheduling with internal stakeholders to align with project deliverables.
- Evaluate, select, and issue contracts for construction firms through bidding and prequalification vetting processes.
- Direct and execute installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned projects.
- Manage and maintain project milestone schedules with integrated detailed scheduling as agreed upon in the project charter.
- Ensure designs and all stages of the project are compliant with internal Corporate, FSQA, and EHS requirements and all Federal, State, or Local regulations such as FDA, EPA, and OSHA.
- Applies effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in all directions to multiple levels of experience.
- Maintain close working relationships with central engineering resources, plant quality, plant safety, plant operations leadership, and finance.
- Coordinates all aspects of projects from design through final installation and project closing processes, in collaboration with functional teams.
- Utilize continuous improvement and vertical start-up tools as needed for project success
- Offer production support and troubleshooting assistance to Engineers, Operations, and Maintenance as required.
- Ensures compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
What Does It Take to be a Project Engineer at Dawn Foods?
Below are the minimum qualifications to be a fit for this job.
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, or 9 years of experience in managing large capital projects in a process manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment, with increasing responsibility and complexity, may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing large capital projects in a process manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment, with increasing responsibility and complexity.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of project management techniques and tools.
- Experience in the food industry and consumer packaged goods is preferred.
- Experience in collaborating with corporate and plant engineers as well as cross-functional stakeholders.
- MS Office, AutoCAD, and MS Project.

Compensation Range:
$99,960 - $145,540 with bonus incentive.
