Job Purpose and Overview
This is a contract opportunity for 6-7 months reporting to the Materials Manager and will be onsite at the Burlington Manufacturing plant. The plant buyer is responsible for ensuring availability of ingredients and packaging to meet production schedules and customer fill rates. This role will work closely with scheduling, warehousing, inventory control and production.
Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8-hour workday with 1/2 hour unpaid lunch, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
What You’ll Do as a Plant Buyer at Dawn Foods?
- Creates Purchase Order for the plant's raw materials and packaging, purchases utilizing existing and approved vendors and Dawn Buying Programs to ensure the timely receipt of quality goods and materials
- Maintains targeted inventory levels in adherence with best-in-class practices at Dawn.
- Works to resolve availability issues with a sense of urgency and escalates to the manager when or if there are production scheduling implications or customer shortages.
- Continuously looks for improvement opportunities within one’s responsibilities and those that impact the supply chain results.
- If necessary, will perform required expediting functions to meet customer and production scheduling requirements but main objective will be to avoid added costs.
- Works closely with scheduling and inventory control to make sure ingredient inventory is available to meet the production plan and line stoppages are avoided.
- Interfaces with Accounts Payable and Purchasing Departments to resolve P.O. pricing &/or quantity issues and encourage prompt vendor payments.
- Demonstrates the “Dawn Values” of Team Dawn and supports the Dawn Circle of Excellence.
What Does It Take to be Plant Buyer at Dawn Foods?
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management field or related degree.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of work experience in purchasing or scheduling in a manufacturing environment.
- Must have operational knowledge of SAP, Excel, Word, & Microsoft Outlook and/or ability to learn these skills.
- APICS certification a plus.
- The ability to multi-task in high pressure situations and to always maintain a positive & caring attitude.
- Requires strong organizational skills, is dedicated and a true team player.
