Job Purpose and Overview
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of a team of delivery drivers, as well as their related systems and programs.
This is an onsite position at our Calgary Distribution Center.
Shift Schedule: Monday- Friday 07:00 am – 3:00 pm (unless engaged in driving duties).
What will you do as a Transportation Supervisor at Dawn Foods?
- A fundamental requirement of the Transportation Supervisor is serving to minimize service disruptions to Dawn customers. To satisfy this requirement the Transportation Supervisor must hold and maintain a current Class 1 driver’s license and be prepared to engage in driving and delivery duties as business needs require. This includes but is not limited to coverage for absenteeism, turnover, or assigned holidays. This is anticipated to be ~30% of the Transportation Supervisor’s annual focus.
- This role directly manages a team of six Class 1 driver team members, all who report directly to the Transportation Supervisor.
- Daily route planning and functional SME for Descartes Software. Managing routes by arranging/expediting, dispatching, and monitoring all shipments including providing emergency support (weather, equipment breakdowns, etc.). This role will coordinate 3rd party, appointment-based PUs or deliveries, team member hotel arrangements, etc. as determined by the daily route planning activities.
- Functional SME and primary user supporting system tools related to transportation operations including Greenmile, Descartes, Geo Tab ELD, and E2Open TMS.
- Functional SME and primary user supporting the Lytx Drive Cam safety system, including team member reviews, coaching and follow ups.
- Leads weekly driver Crew talks to review performance KPIs, Safety review and topics, disseminate updates and communication, and provide an open forum for team discussion.
- Ensure compliance of all driver DQF records and vehicle documentation
- Responsible for monitoring and auditing all driver logbooks to be sure they are maintained as required by Dawn Foods Policy and the Transport Canada.
- Ensure that all IFS standards, safety policies and requirements are being enforced and followed.
- Ensure all vehicles are kept clean and are being maintained in safe operation condition by ensuring required documentation such as Inspections, Daily Damage Report Sheet, and VCR are completed.
- Deal with any truck breakdowns or repairs.
- Investigate customers' complaints involving such matters as damaged items, driver performance, and delays in shipment, and make necessary adjustments within the scope of the position.
- Investigate and report all MV accidents involving Dawn drivers as required. Follow all procedures stated in the Dawn program.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as adherence to employee regulations and Transport Canada laws, in daily operations.
- Other duties or assignments as needed.
- Demonstrates the “Dawn Values” of Team Dawn and supports the Circle of Excellence.
What Does It Take to be a Transportation Supervisor at Dawn Foods?
Below are the minimum qualifications to be a fit for this job.
- Class 1 license with clean driver’s abstract.
- High School Diploma or GED Required.
- Two years of transportation management experience with a full understanding of Transport Canada and Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) National Safety Code (NSC).
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other Dawn people.
- Training and experience in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and SAP
- Experience with routing and GPS Systems (RoadNet, GreenMile, GeoTab) is preferred.
- Forklift certification is an asset.
