Job Purpose and Overview
Provide specific administrative assistance in the field of workers’ compensation to include claims management, return to work/modified duty programs, and working with nurse case managers to ensure prompt recovery and consistent and excellent medical care. The position currently requires follow-up at all Dawn Distribution locations in the absence of a human resource support capability to provide team members with reliable and consistent resources to manage their claims. Lastly, because Dawn is self-insured, when people no longer work for Dawn, if the facility has been closed, there continues to be a necessity for medical follow-up to all outstanding claims.
- Shift Schedule: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday
- Hybrid Work Eligibility & Travel Requirements: This is a Hybrid work schedule, working 3 days a week out of our Jackson, MI office, limited Travel required.
What will you do as a Workers' Compensation Coordinator at Dawn Foods?
- Daily follows up on work comp by contacting insurance adjusters, nurse case managers, Dawn locations, and/or physicians’ offices regarding the work status, restrictions, physician appointments, responding to notes from Dawn locations or adjusters with the ultimate goal of file closure.
- Daily contacts with adjusters and locations via email to update status in the work comp management system, WCCMS.
- As needed, make contact with physicians’ offices to discuss possible administrative discharge.
- Follow up with the contact at the Dawn location and the adjuster. Update work status in WCCMS.
- As needed, make contact with Dawn team members in situations where lost time is involved, take steps to ensure they attend doctor appointments, and offer to answer any questions they might have regarding the work comp process.
- Assist with scheduling appointments as necessary.
- Continuous updates are made to the WCCMS system when calls are received from the adjuster, Dawn location, or physicians’ office as necessary for clarification and/or follow-up.
- Information is forwarded to the adjuster/location.
- Immediate contacts were possible to advise the insurance adjuster when a team member is discharged from the area, make notations in the system, and request and follow up on file closure.
- From the inception of a first report of injury, documentation of medical reports, complete data entry of details including demographics, work status, restrictions, injury details, and treating physician, is entered into the system.
- Contact is made to the Dawn location, the adjuster, and potentially the physicians’ office when clarification is needed.
- Follow-up is required to ensure that the loss has been properly processed and entered into the computer system.
- Follow-up is again required to include adding a claim number and claim status to the management system.
- As incidents occur, information is entered into the Industry Safe reporting system, and a claim is submitted to TPA when appropriate.
- Continuous follow-up with insurance adjuster for status of files.
- Updates are made to the system. E-mail notifications of file closures are made to the locations and payroll.
- Work with the work comp specialist to remain familiar with active claims.
- Review of system and Risx Facs.
- Advise Claims Specialist of any upcoming events and or changes to status.
- E-mail or call to request a copy of personnel files to the HR Call Center.
- Follow up upon receipt and distribute as directed to appropriate persons.
- Using all available tools, determine the number of days before payment is due for Team Members experiencing lost time and ensure that wage statements are requested as necessary.
- Provide lost time and modified duty reports to the claims specialist and the distribution safety director.
- Review of medical treatment to ensure that progress is being made in the team member’s care.
- Work with the claims specialist if questions arise, who will determine the next steps.
- Steps may include contact with the nurse case manager, claims adjuster, and physician, as needed.
- Monitor attendance to medical appointments for ex-team members.
- Since Dawn is self-insured, we continue to pay for treatment and are responsible for all bills, and monitoring of treatment to include prescriptions, physical therapy, etc.
What Does It Take to Be a Workers' Compensation Coordinator at Dawn Foods?
Below are the minimum qualifications to be a fit for this job.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Degree: Associate’s degree in business, accounting, or related field preferred.
- A minimum of one to three years progressively more responsible general office, Workers Compensation Claims Management, Human Resources, or related experience required.

Compensation Range
$49,240 - 73,860 with bonus incentive
