Job Purpose and Overview

As Plant Manager you are responsible for the functioning and performance of the Leeuwarden production facility. This includes translating business objectives into production/operations objectives and achieving them. Your focus is on optimizing and professionalizing production, supply chain, as well as supporting functions, by fostering a continuous improvement culture.

The plant in Leeuwarden has approximately 110 employees, half of which work in production. The plant is complex and produces a wide range of bakery products, such as chocolate coatings, fruit fillings, glazes, aromas and flavors, citrus products and packaged goods for retail customers. Due to the acquisition by Dawn Foods, Royal Steensma products now have access to a much wider European sales and distribution network. To accommodate the expected growth, significant investments are planned to increase production capacity and expand the plant in Leeuwarden. Successfully leading this expansion is your main challenge as Plant Manager in the short and mid-term.

You will report to the Director Operations. Your direct reports are the Production Manager, Head of Technical Department, Process Technologist and QC Employees. You lead the plant MT which consists of your direct reports as well as indirect reports in supporting functions such as Supply Chain, R&D, Finance and HR.

 

What will you do as Plant Manager? 

As Plant Manager your responsibilities include:

  • Leading all operational processes and ensuring on-time, on-spec and efficient production and delivery of orders.
  • Developing a multi-year plan, budgets, and KPIs and monitoring execution, adjusting where necessary
  • Optimizing production processes by initiating and leading technical projects.
  • Optimizing communication between departments and with other functions and locations within Royal Steensma/ Dawn Foods.
  • Creating appropriate working conditions for employees by addressing all relevant safety aspects.
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental, food safety and hygiene standards and regulations.

What Does It Take to be a Plant Manager?  

 

You are a results-oriented operations leader with a continuous improvement mindset and history. You inspire trust in your team and lead the organisation towards a clear vision for the future. Technical insight to lead improvement projects and good analytical and problem-solving skills are a must.

Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following profile:

  • A degree in food technology and a solid work history in food manufacturing.
  • At least 5 years’ experience leading a sizeable production organisation.
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying Lean manufacturing principals.
  • Experience with change management, restructuring or expansion in a production environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English are a must
